UAAA Parent Code of Conduct

I. Standards of Sportsmanship and Respect

• Positive Encouragement: I will encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches, officials, and parents at every game, practice, and tournament.

• Respectful Language: I will refrain from making derogatory remarks or using foul language to or about the officials, coaches, parents, players, or spectators of either team.

• Respect for Authority: I will respect any decisions and calls made by coaches and officials and will refrain from “coaching” my child from the sidelines during games.

• Inclusive Treatment: I will ask my child(ren) to treat ALL players, coaches, officials, and fans with respect regardless of race, creed, gender, or ability.

II. Athlete Well-Being and Environment

• Child-Centered Focus: I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of my personal desire to win. I will remember that the game is for the children and not for the parents.

• Healthy Atmosphere: I will demand a drug and alcohol-free sports environment and will refrain from their use at all events, games, and practices, both on and off school property.

• Fun and Safety: I will do my very best to make this sport fun for my child and will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.

III. Logistics and Responsibility

• Attendance: I will ensure my child attends all practices and games. When attendance is not possible, I agree to inform the coach in advance.

• Parental Responsibility: I will remember that coaches are not babysitters. Parents are ultimately responsible for the actions of their child.

• Boundary Awareness: I understand that parents cannot enter the practice or game field at any time.

IV. Communication Protocol

• The 24-Hour Rule: I understand I will wait 24 hours before calling a coach for a face-to-face discussion.

• Complaint Procedures: No coach is required to listen to complaints over the phone or directly following a practice or game.

V. Reflection of the Academy

• Organizational Representation: I will remember that I am a direct reflection of the Union Athletic Association and Union Academy Charter School.

Conduct Subject to Discipline

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action:

• Physical Contact: Making physical contact with any player, coach, official, league representative, or spectator.

• Harassment: Taunting or threatening any player, coach, official, league representative, or spectator.

• Profanity: Using profane or vulgar language or mannerisms.

• Unauthorized Access: Going onto the practice or playing field.

• Bylaw Violations: Any other conduct that is not in compliance with the bylaws of the Union Athletic Association.

Disciplinary Action

Violations of the above code will be met with a progressive disciplinary scale:

1. Verbal Warning: Issued by the head coach or commissioner.

2. Written Warning: Formal documentation of the violation.

3. Game Suspension: Parental suspension from attending specific games.

4. Seasonal Suspension: Permanent removal of the parent for the remainder of the sports season.
